Island City [WIP] - Sejskaler - Jul 16, 2014 Hello. It's been such a long time since I posted here... honestly xD Anyways, so, I was thinking that I wanted to try something I was not good with, after miserably failing at digipainting, I thouhgt I would just have some with photomanipulation and matte painting, and so I did ^^ What I thought was of a crescent island, this is a WIP, I need to add lots of details, and get some more blending in there, but for now, I will put it on a hold ^^ Nevertheless, that must be enough blabbering from here So here it is: Spoiler (Click to View) I honestly don't know what to do with the water... I think I will have to find another stock What do you think? Here are the stocks used: Spoiler (Click to View) Spoiler (Click to View) Spoiler (Click to View) Spoiler (Click to View) Spoiler (Click to View) * - LightBlue - Jul 16, 2014 Matte painting is really hard imo. Looks more like a photomanip atm. Also I think matte painting is done on greater scale, like full cities. So a lot of elements that make flaws unnoticable. Eitherway you've got a nice concept which you've executed decently, but you can clearly see you're new to this (which is not a bad thing, practice makes perfect!). I've only done a matte painting once and didn't really like it so I just went into full digi painting, which I enjoy a lot more. So I can't give you any usefull CnC on this subject (never done photo manips either), but keep practicing like you'd need to in any form of art and you'll improve :) I don't feel like the sky appeals to me, it's too light/weird color. Do like the beam though, gives it a surreal twist. Also if you ever want to get better at digi painting I'm willing to give you some tips and help you out a bit. Just shoot me a PM. * - Sejskaler - Jul 16, 2014 (Jul 16, 2014 01:36 PM)LightBlue Wrote: Matte painting is really hard imo. Looks more like a photomanip atm. It is hard indeed, I just tryed to paint some things here and there, it didn't go too well, that is why I said photomanipulation/matte painting xD I am new indeed, and I know it is not the best, but I really had fun, so what else does really matter? I see, the sky? :O Well, to me it was the ocean, but I guess we have different views x3 I will certainly look at it ^^ Thank you for the critic, and cheering up so to say, I am glad you liked the beam ^^ I will PM you, tommorow, or later, it is getting late, thank you for the offer ^^ Thank you very much, I am certainly grateful you looked at my piece and really glad you want to help Regards * - Divize - Jul 16, 2014 To be honest with you, I really like it! ~Coming from an inexperienced designer in this kind of subject. What's this "art" called? * - Baghead - Jul 16, 2014 I agree, I wouldn't be able to tell this was a matte painting if you hadn't said so in the OP That being said the water is weird and it's hard to tell the reflection is even a reflection at first sight Also the bendy water is super confusing * - Greybolt - Jul 17, 2014 That looks awesome and I'm glad you showed us the original stocks. I agree with you about the water. I think a darker water would look cool, or even a reddy orangey water reflecting that red sky. * - Sejskaler - Jul 17, 2014 (Jul 16, 2014 10:08 PM)Divize Wrote: To be honest with you, I really like it! Hello, thank you. Many will probably categorize this mainly in photomanipulation, a very very few elements are matte painted, so you might wish to look into that too. Hope it helped ^^ (Jul 16, 2014 11:49 PM)Baghead Wrote: I agree, I wouldn't be able to tell this was a matte painting if you hadn't said so in the OP Well, in that case, some of it might have been succesful, but well, it's kind of a combination ^^ Thank you, I thought that maybe silent water might work for the better? And thank you for the reflection, I will take a look at it ^^ (Jul 17, 2014 07:48 AM)Seori Wrote: That looks awesome and I'm glad you showed us the original stocks. I agree with you about the water. Thank you very much, and the idea with the red/orange is a really great idea, I doubt I will make it darker, but I will definetly go with that idea, let's see where it leads, thank you :3 * - Grumpys - Jul 20, 2014 :o have rarely seen something like this. * - Erwin Schrödinger - Jul 20, 2014 I belive that this is so unique, that it shouldn't be compared with other pictures. The picture is very surreal, and nice looking at because of that. (I really enjoy surreal picutres.) If I would need to change anything would I go with the water. I don't like the way it's bending, nor does it really look like water in the first place. All in all, good job OP! 8/10 |
