[Mint Debian] Which packages labeled "mint" can be safely removed? - mindsword - Aug 1, 2014 i need to free up space, and make the system less "mint-like" i have mint because its the only decent system i can get working on my old i486 system...... so which packages specifically labeled "mint" can i and can i not remove? which ones do i have to keep? i know i can remove those annoying addons like pidgin, gthumb, banshee and mozilla, but when i remove some "mint" packages the system fails to boot.......... can i remove mint completely and make it more debian? There are 48 packages in synaptic installed, when you search "mint" as keyword. I dont want em there. Can i replace some of them? * - Jay - Aug 1, 2014 Why not just reinstall plain debian on your pc if you essentially want to remove what mint features? * - mindsword - Aug 1, 2014 (Aug 1, 2014 08:01 PM)Knight Wrote: Why not just reinstall plain debian on your pc if you essentially want to remove what mint features? Is there a i486 / non-PAE version? i have one of those ancient laptops they found in the mediterranean sea a few years ago...... it was hell removing all the rust, but i got it booting in the end. wierd that it has a danish keyboard layout. * - Loki123 - Aug 2, 2014 Here is a list of i486 distributions http://distrowatch.com/search.php?architecture=i486 * - Jay - Aug 2, 2014 (Aug 2, 2014 12:17 AM)Loki123 Wrote: Here is a list of i486 distributions #! is a great distro if you don't mind OpenBox. * - Loki123 - Aug 2, 2014 (Aug 2, 2014 12:18 AM)Knight+ Wrote: #! is a great distro if you don't mind OpenBox. I just never saw the need of running Slack on my i5 system. 😝 But I will be damned it runs on my dads old HP flawlessly. * - Loki123 - Aug 2, 2014 (Aug 2, 2014 12:28 AM)Knight+ Wrote: I just never saw the need of running Slack on my i5 system. 😝 Yeah, slack is truly a great system and one of the best for someone who only wants roughly tested and working software on his computer. I used it a while on my i5 computer. * - mindsword - Aug 2, 2014 Got crunchbang working in the end. Fuck mint lol |
