This is because the resources that contain the start orb are in the explorer.exe and it is the updated explorer shell that needs to be reloaded, otherwise it is using the resources of the unpatched Windows Explorer GUI in memory that are being used. To stop the Windows GUI, right click on the taskbar -> Task Manager -> Processes tab (show processes from all users checked) -> right click explorer.exe -> End Process Note your GUI will disappear so to restart it open Task Manager -> File -> New Task (Run) -> type %Windir%\system32\explorer.exe in the dialogue box -> OK This saves you from having to logout or reboot to have the change take effect 🙂 * - Jay - Aug 5, 2014 You can also do this in Classic Shell for those who hate the regular Start Menu in windows 8/8.1 * - Polymath 1.0 - Aug 5, 2014 You only need to stop the Windows Explorer GUI shell and restart it to have the changes to the Start Orb reflected in the taskbar. Make a 54x54 image with your base button (black is transparent) then you make a "hover" and "down" version. The final image should be 54x162 with the base button at the top, hover in the middle, and down at the bottom. Something I did years ago: You get the idea. * - WZDY - Aug 6, 2014 (Aug 5, 2014 08:22 PM)Evоlutiоn Wrote: You can also create your own buttons. Yeah I also done it alot of times, I even had one with Brazzers logo 😝 * - ⭐A.J⭐ - Aug 6, 2014 The Start Orb Changer automatically restarts the explorer after you select the desired image. You don't need to restart the PC or stop/start the explorer. * - Cisteriaso - Aug 6, 2014 Thanks for the tutorial, this is useful! * - WZDY - Aug 7, 2014 (Aug 6, 2014 12:27 PM)Skylinе Wrote: The Start Orb Changer automatically restarts the explorer after you select the desired image. In my case it made me restart the explorer (I'm just saying to restart PC or end session because it's easier and trouble-less, ofcourse you can always go to Task manager and delete explorer.exe. |
