Visual Novel Steam Challenge - Idea thread - Happeh - Aug 11, 2014

VN STEAM CHALLENGE

Okay AA, I have a plan which might be quite fun. The idea of the challenge is that people will sign up to all play visual novels together. Similar to a reading club, but this time we'll purposely play all the bad ones... which is most on Steam. All the big ones such as Clannad, Kira Kira and A Drug That Makes You Dream are way overdone, the idea is we play all the indie ones on steam, together. We all start at the same time, are given a deadline to finish and then round up on a thread to discuss. We then have a few days break until the next one.

What I want to do here is a draw up a rulebook, get members interested in playing and signing up and also get some suggestions for what visual novels we should play and in what order. So post away and lets get some discussion going.

Beta Rules
  • Game must be available on steam to purchase (how you end up getting it is down to you)
  • Members must participate in all games and complete them by the pre-set deadline

This is a pretty cool idea, like a book club with purposefully bad books! If my computer can run it you can sign me up, it's about time AA did another group thing.

You mean to tell me you are purposefully going to be playing shit games on steam that are made for suckers who like anything related to anime?

Sounds interesting but I think I'll pass, I got 6 different VN's I need to catch up with and so many series.. >_<! Let me know how it goes, keep this updated.

School's going to start and I don't know if I can keep up.

But seriously, I don't like the idea of giving money to bad developers for the comedy of it so they can continue to produce half-assed content.. :/ (Mainly directed at Sakura Spirit. The shortcomings in Hatoful Boyfriend could be intentional and mainly for comedy, (which would be fine) but I don't know about it. Haven't read.)

I think it might be better to designate "pieces" of the VN to read, and discuss it at the end of the piece (rather than discuss at the end of the whole thing). It would probably give more to talk about. I'm not exactly sure how you could tell people where to stop though.

I kinda agree with King~ here. I wouldn't want to see Sakura Spirit 2 in the works. .-.

As much as I agree, I hope us downloading their $3 VN will do much for them. Even so there's other places we can get it without playing. I just suggested Steam, because... well pretty much all are terrible. I wouldn't want to play pieces, would ruin the idea of forcing yourself through a game. We want to try and embrace all its badness. :p

I don't mind that, its just I don't want people picking and choosing which ones they play and what they don't. Idea is you play all the bad ones. So yes, but dont miss many if you can.
