READ THIS BEFORE POSTING - matt - Aug 30, 2014

If you're new to the Java subforum here are a few unwritten rules and etiquette that you must follow if you are going to make a thread.

1. Javascript and Java are NOT the same languages, if you want help with javascript please post HERE.

2. If you're releasing a program, post your code in code tags or upload it to git and post your git repository. We actually like to read your code to see how it works and prevent malware from being spreaded. Also, provide pictures if you're releasing a game or a program which has a GUI.

3. If you're asking for help, try using Google first. If you don't find what you're looking for post your code in a thread so we at least know you've tried to solve the problem yourself. We don't want to spoon feed you. Honestly, I've figured out so many problems that I couldn't find on the internet. (Use the built in eclipse auto-complete tool, it works wonders)

4. When formatting your code, make it universally readable. Use good naming conventions and name your classes accordingly as to what they do.

5. Multiple Lines are OK! Break up the following over multiple lines. Strings, arrays and SQL statements. Everything shouldn't be jammed all in to one line.

6. There's always a shorter, more effecient and easier way to do things, experiment and look at the java docs for help.

7. HAVE FUN PROGRAMMING! If you don't enjoy it then fuck off! (unless it's for school)

Please comment some things that I missed and I'll add them to the thread. (:

These really needed to be posted. Thanks for posting this.

If they are unwritten rules, then people don't have to follow what you stated.

This thread won't make much of a difference.

It's not necessarily rules, more of programming etiquette, they don't have to follow them but everybody will be happier if they do.

I posted something similar nearly 4 years ago (wow), some of it may apply feel free to cut and paste anything from it.

How about adding "search before asking" and "if you're about to post something about minecraft in this section, shove a railroad spike up your ass, then proceed to do so."
