Best free Anti virus / anti malware - Immortal - Sep 4, 2014

okay I bought a asus transformer book t100 and it run's windows 8.1, which I am still learning, it feels so foreign to me but thats besides the point, Im here to ask what is the best free anti virus / anti-malware to install on it. I plan on just using it for college, and browse the web, what should I install?

to clarify, I can not use cracked av software(part of my oath on campus), just free-ware

I personally was thinking Avast and Malwarebytes.

Avast and Avira antivirus is a good free anti-malware programs yes you should also install MalwareBytes program to manually scan for malware infection. Never run more than one firewall and antivirus programs at same time if you do they will slow down your computer and internet connections.

Thanks for confirming what I already thought, and yes I know that.

I can't use any program that I don't own. It's the campus rule that I was kinda tricked into signing.

Avast is pretty good for a free anti virus program. I mean use common sense and run programs in Sandboxed if you need to test something

Avoid web sites you know you shouldn't be on.

I do this anyways, but sadly the internet is still filled full of malware and other bugs I wouldn't want to obtain by just stumbling onto the wrong webpage. Buuuut, thanks for all the help guys I have installed avast free and malwarebytes free (plan on buying once I pay this semester off) and I signed up for Avast Student and hopefully I get a licence for Internet Security version for free :)
