HF Scammer Database - Orgy - Sep 8, 2014

I have joined up with Xerotic on the development of the HF Scammer Database.

I am aware that my name is in the database. It will remain there.
The integrity of the script will not be compromised.

We are planning some things out on how to improve it and make it more useful for everyone. These changes will be revealed at a later time.

For now, we're looking on ways to make some money from it. For that, I have some questions for you guys. You guys are the users of it and so your opinion on all of it is very important.

It's obvious you guys don't like the ads, but there's not too many ways to make money off of this. However, money does need to be made as it takes time and effort to develop and maintain.

That being said, here's some things that have either been mentioned or thought of:
  • Ads, obviously. You guys didn't like this, but...
    • What if only one ad was displayed?
    • How about displaying little non-intrusive basic image banners about the size of this:
  • In addition to the above, how about if the ads were able to be turned off completely for a small donation?
  • And of course, for the non-donators, turned off each day (they would turn back on at the start of the next day and the user can just turn them off easily)

Just a few ideas but we have plenty more in the making.

Also, we'd love to hear about any sort of feature requests you guys might have. As I mentioned earlier, we have plenty of things planned that we know you'll love, but we'd love to hear if you guys are already looking for the things we plan and anything else that we could add to our plans.

I think a good idea would be as you said have a free and paid version. Free would show the ads and paid you'd get the option to turn it off. Seems pretty fair and decent.

Yeah, It would be good, but people would just change the code in the userscript, or something. You could try though!

For that we could obfuscate the code to make it more difficult, but I'd like to avoid that route. The key is full transparency. I think there are other ways to dissuade people from doing that and so if we do have different versions, I think we simply wouldn't complain too much about people modifying the script. It's simply not worth the hassle. Distribution of modified scripts, on the other hand, would be punishable by death.

Personally I wouldn't use a script that has any sort of ads integrated in, I enjoy my HF experience ad free. Albeit this script isn't for me as I'm not too lazy to look up UIDs before dealing with someone.

Yeah, Another thing might be, Everytime when a keyword in a thread title is there (Or section, idk) it gives like a little add; This is also recommended (AD)

The paid version should have no ads at all. Turning off at PAID version is kinda... bad. As for free, Ads should be displayed ONCE or TWICE per 24 hours. 🤝

Fair enough and that's something to consider. Perhaps people that paid HF for the removal of ads (ub3r, l33t) don't get ads on the script, either? Not saying this is what we'll do but it's an option we're considering.

Oh man. Targeted ads. Now we're cooking with grease. That would definitely allow us to increase the price of adspace.

Agreed. If we continue ads and have a paid user system, paid users won't get ads. Simple.

I don't really see what's that about, Since it's a sort of 3rd party plugin, Not from HF. There are also people who just don't make money on HF, or at the internet at all, But still try to contribute alot. Most of the people using it would be upgraded members though.

True. We're just trying to find the best route to take here. Regardless, if we do implement ads we'll be ensuring that they're unobtrusive to prevent eyesores. No big flashing banners or things like that

Free - Ads
Paid - No ads
Free with no ads - 1 in 5 links you click are a adf.ly link or something.

Yeah, Not like some kind of flashing 2D banner made by a kid in paint ;)

What links would they be clicking? Links on HF? We're not going to interfere with the basic functionality of HF.

People who are upgraded should not see any adds and I that's how I think it should be.
But in the bright side, if you put adds you might make enough money to pay back Dan.
