Store some strings in a vb.net executable? - Jon Snow - Sep 10, 2014

I need to store around 2 20-character strings in order to be used within the file.

I have a stub (that's how you call it) and a builder.

The stub is already compiled. When I run the builder I have to add 2 strings somewhere in the executable. Adding the strings to the end of file is not an option.

Thank you.

Uhm. Use My.Settings then?
I think that'd work.

Those strings should be accessed on other computers as well.
My.Settings stuff is saved locally.

Could you be more precise?

It would help if you could post some of your code.

Oh in that case add it to like %appdata% or use registry.

He wants to save data in his executable (not on the computer), if I understood well

You cannot write on your own executable while it's being executed. What you can do is copy the same executable to any other name (let's say "yourapp_stub.exe") and then apply any method from my builder/stub thread:

Instead of using EOF, look into the PE file format, there are some gaps where you can save data and not fuck up the file itself.

Nathan72389 made a method called Byte Patching that you could use.
