Hello HF,
First of I want to start by saying that this idea was brought to my attention on another forum where you could take a perma banned members name. And this might be a good idea for upgraded members to take a name that someone else wants but can't have. Regardless of the account status.
Why?:
Well, there are many good names and OG names on HF. Let's consider that Bob saw a user with a name they have had their eyes on and wants priority on that name. But say there were other members with their eyes on it too just waiting for the account to be closed or such. Well, it would be first come first serve. Or maybe even better a system where the person who puts a priority on it first gets it first? I don't see the harm in it. Whatever method Omni thinks is better.
But then we need to consider that members have an OG name but they want to change to another OG name. That would be fine considering that they haven't had too many or taken too many names. Perhaps maybe limitations and a possible list of available names would be handy?
That's just my perspective on it but if we made this to perhaps a upgraded member ub3r/l33t it doesn't matter where they can have first pick or a priority list to where if they want it they would just have to visit a certain page like this:
https://hackforums.net/names.php
https://hackforums.net/usernames.php
And a list for priority of who gets it first. Consider this a waiting list per say where they have a waiting list for certain usernames that are waiting for it to be available and if it's taken it could show a message like
Quote:Sorry, this username has already been taken. You could try look in the avaialble member names for another.
Or something like that. And so we come to the part where they want to take a name and they are directed to:

Or something like that and they are shown a form where they enter the name or something of the username they want. And it can determine weather the name is taken, already used, or is available. It could query that if the name is taken but by an active member it would say so or if the name is available it could show a popup box like
"Are you sure you want to take this name?"
So when they take the name it's theirs for aslong as they want.
Sorry if this threads a mess but this was done in sort of a rush and is a temporary idea. Feel free to vent your thoughts on this idea I am open to your comments and opinions on my idea.

Doesnt mean anything, user may have a history of scamming, if you havent realized every hf member has their own ID. a smiple search can tell you if the owner of the new username has a scamming history

This will most likely be denied..
Omni will not delete accounts so other members can grab their usernames.

I'd be entirely in support of some sort of system to allow the recycling of banned usernames. The trademark at the end of my own username is a constant nuisance and it would be nice to be able to ditch it.

Many users assume, especially Ub3rs as they have power.
I remember seeing a registered user called "Sandshrew" and was -3'd due to the previous Sandshrew's HF history.

Can you delete an account so I can get the username?
Hell no. Don't even ask. If it's a zero post member you can wait till the account is pruned but don't ask us to delete an individual account for you. Even if it has one post from 2 years ago and they've never returned we will not delete the account just so you can have a username.
This would include closed accounts, they will not be deleted for you to get the username.
