Rate My Build & Updates - Froggy - Sep 26, 2014

I finally got around to buying the parts for my build a few months ago. I'm still looking to make a few upgrades eventually. I bought the Dell UltraSharp just to have an alright monitor until I can afford a couple of really nice ones. My second monitor is just a really old monitor I had lying around. It's so old that it's VGA only. =P I can't really survive without dual monitors.

Case: Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower
CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz Quad-Core
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Hero
Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB DDR3 2133
Storage: Samsung 840 Pro Series 512GB SSD, and WD VelociRaptor 600GB
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti Dual Classified 3GB
Power Supply: Corsair AX860i
Monitors: Dell UltraSharp U2312HM and HP PoS
Keyboard: Corsair Vengeance K70 Cherry MX Red
Mouse: Logitech G602
Headset: Sennheiser PC 363D
Webcam: Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920

I also ended up finally taking some photos today. I wish I were a better photographer to do this build justice. The full album of photos can be found here. (Click to View)

I'm going to decorate my walls and room eventually. I painted my walls white and bought a bookshelf for my figurines a couple of weeks ago. Slow progress. I built the desk and bookshelf by myself. I'll take photos of the rest of my room some other day.

My next few purchases:

Green Screen
Rode NTG2 Condenser Shotgun Microphone
Behringer Xenyx 802 Premium 8-Input 2-Bus Mixer
RODE PSA1 Swivel Mount
MXL 990 Condenser Microphone with Shockmount
Elgato Game Capture HD

Also, what sound system would you guys recommend? My current speakers are crappy Altec Lansing speakers that were manufactured in ancient times. I'm looking for a nice flat screen TV to put above my monitors as well, so if you know anything about that, I'd like to receive some advice.

Looks really nice, do you even play games?

* - Doxicity - Sep 26, 2014

I wouldn't upgrade anything, that build is killer.
All I could say is grab new monitors once you're ready.
And IDK if you left it out, but you have no HDD listed? Are you only running that SSD?

It's listed there, alright!

WD VelociRaptor 600GB

I got this HD for free.

Beast machine, no need to upgrade anything for awhile.

For the sound system, are you looking for something that you could use to monitor audio? Would you prefer speakers or headphones?
Also there are other mounts instead of the Rhode that offer a nice desk mount that are cheaper.

Only problem I have with the build is the velociraptor HDD. Not really all that much better than a standard 7200RPM drive.

I hope you paint a mural of a frog on the wall to decorate 👍

Your base system is right up there in the high-end spectrum. If you wish to push even more performance, you could SLI that 780 Ti, or sell it and grab dual 980s or dual 970s. For general performance, a PCI-E SSD is a thing worth looking into.

Other than that, you could upgrade your sound system by getting an even better pair of headphones or a sound card/DAC to accompany it. Maybe pickup another Ultrasharp.

As for the flatscreen, what do you plan to do with it? You could probably pick up a cheap RCA LED TV for cheap if it's not anything fancy.

I'm looking for one of those speaker and subwoofer combos. 😉

Can you link me to some mounts that you'd recommend?

Yeah, I got the HDD for free. Nothing is better than freeeee.

Yeah, I was thinking of selling it and grabbing two newer ones. I'm going to wait a bit though, for any releases or announcements.

As for the flatscreen, I plan to watch movies and play games on it. General entertainment stuff. I'm not the type to go for cheap things though. :C

If you're looking to improve gaming performance I would definitely upgrade to the GTX 980 if you didn't just get the GTX 780. The performance is a lot better!

I have the same case as you and I love it. I also have the same headset as you and it's great but the mic is a bit, blergh on some voice applications that compress the audio a lot but honestly that's the same with any microphone.

If you don't need the microphone then just get a decent pair of headphones rather than an actual headset.

I was considering a water cooled setup but it looks as if the H110 is much better for only a little more, although the Noctua NH-D15 is an excellent choice for an air cooling setup.

Even though some parts are a bit outdated it's a really nice build!

I really like your desk, I might actually get something like that for my next desk.

* - DarkETHOS - Sep 27, 2014

Nice build. Same as mine, I bought a 750D Tower and after like almost a year I totally regret it, It was a little over-kill for me.. Space is good, but dam the trouble taken to clean them 🤣

Aftermarket 980s and 970s should fill th shells within a month.

What's your budget for this third screen? What screen size do you want? Depending on your budget, it may be better just to get a large monitor instead of a TV.

I would go with a i7 4790K. I would go with a GTX 980.

Can't say much about the rest.
