Searching an "Up to date" Java book for beginners - Mr. Monkey - Oct 11, 2014
Hey guys, So I've been in a search for a good Java book to begin with, so I started reading "Beginning programming with java for dummies" but it is really out dated.
So I came here to ask you for a good new book to start programming Java with.
Thanks in advance!

Sam's Teach Yourself Java in 24 hours 6th edition is a pretty good book:
http://www.amazon.com/Teach-Yourself-Covering-Android-Edition/dp/0672335751
But you don't need a book to learn Java, I'm pretty good at Java and I never used a book. thenewboston has good Java tutorials and so does a lot of other places online.

Thanks, I will check it out :)
And I think I would do both, watching and reading.

Probably a bit late but recently there was a book list compilation posted in this HF forum. I'll post the link down below except like Spartan5x said you don't need to read books to be able to learn Java. There a lot of good videos on the internet (thenewboston is the most popular).
Anyway enough blabbering here is the link:
