Alternative to communicate - yohann - Oct 12, 2014

Hi,
I want to know all free alternatives to counter all means of espionage by all big institutions like NSA or, more generally, all tools used by cybercriminal to communicate.

I currently use outlook for my mailbox and skype.
I've seen tox.im that looks great and safe-mail.net but very limited storage (3mb)... and i don't want to pay , i just want an reasonable free storage on my mailbox if i change it.

I'm on the waiting list of protonmail (https://protonmail.ch/)

I am also using sometime IRC but if i configure my client to pass through TOR it seem good and i have google chrome as browser but it seem good too.

I've also heard of ICQ or jabber but i do not know what it is and if it's really interesting

And i have changed my dns to use dns server of yandex.ru but all request it's of course not encrypted...
(and i do not want service based in USA)
Excuse me for my english , i'm french , also young and thanks for yours help !

XMPP with a secure server and client is probably going to be one of the best options available at this point.

I would just like to point out that if you're going to use XMPP; actually do use a secure server.

I second this. Using a server just because it has a short domain name isn't always the best route.

Always run the server through the test here - https://xmpp.net/

XMPP with Off The Record Plugin is probably one of the most safest besides IRC. Or maybe talking IRL.

The security of IRC is debatable to be honest. It relies on way more than XMPP + OTR.

What about everyone's favorite P2P Skype replacement, Tox? https://tox.im/

I have other questions :
-I have tried jitsi with jabber.ru but voice calls don't work (text messages work)
-Do you have special ISP/mobile operators ?
-Have you alternatives to dropbox (not hosted in US) ?

thanks
