Cheap Laptop Optimization - Fronin - Nov 8, 2014

Hi HF! I was hoping some of you could recommend some softwares that would make my cheap laptop feel like a top knotch piece of equipment. Now I know there's only so much I could do, but here's what I'm talking about: I want the best antivirus, firewall, etc. So what are the best ones you can get?

Wrong section. Not hardware related.

And to answer your question, there is no best, there is only what suits your personal needs the most.

also most of those software optimizers are shit and do nothing(looking at you iobit)

You don't need any said 'software' to do this for you. Don't look over the visual effects of Windows.

It's all about managing your system and keeping it up to date and clean. I do that daily and it's really easy. If you want me to list a few things I do, let me know.

Never install these so called 3rd party optimization crapware. Use a decent antivirus program like Avast! that's not resource hungry. Uninstall all unwanted programs using Add/remove programs. Check your windows startup(Start > msconfig > startup tab) and disable anything unwanted. Get redit of unwanted toolbars in your browsers. Use addons like noscript, adblock plus etc to secure your browsers. Keep java and your OS updated at all times. Scan your PC once every week to keep it clean. Defrag the machine once every couple of months. Never install 3rd party programs/toolbars that come along with any programs you might be installing. Have a VM installed in your machine and run any suspicious programs/apps inside it.
