Invisible characters in username? - Paathurnax - Nov 25, 2014 I believe I already know the answer to this question, but I wanted to double check before I made any changes to my username. Is it against the rules to use invisible ascii characters in your username? Say, if I wanted to take the fullstop out of my name and replace it with an invisible character to give it a cleaner look. I'd appreciate anyone's knowledge regarding this. * - Vinnie - Nov 25, 2014 There are no official rules about it but it's a pain in the ass for staff to deal with so it's better to not choose a username that has any special characters, then again it's really your decision. It's not really recommended though. * - Nine - Nov 25, 2014 It's fine, unless you're using it to impersonate someone. * - Paathurnax - Nov 25, 2014 (Nov 25, 2014 06:38 PM)Vinnie Wrote: There are no official rules about it but it's a pain in the ass for staff to deal with so it's better to not choose a username that has any special characters, then again it's really your decision. I'll leave it as it is for now. * - LittleBobbyTables - Nov 25, 2014 No, because then people could impersonate others' names easier. My take on it, at least. * - Paathurnax - Nov 25, 2014 (Nov 25, 2014 06:39 PM)Nine Wrote: It's fine, unless you're using it to impersonate someone. I don't believe anyone has a similar name to mine. I'll have a look however. Edit: Ah, that's strange. There is in fact a member with the username 'Yin'. His username only has three characters though. * - Ari - Nov 25, 2014 It looks weird when you give rep to people if you have invis chars in your names, I used em in mine before, wouldn't recommend * - Roger Waters - Nov 25, 2014 There is nothing against having invisible characters or other ASCII characters in your name. The only things that are not allowed would be abusing the invisible ASCII characters to make it appear as if you don't actually have a username, using this will get you banned indefinitely, and using the invisible character to make it appear as if you have the same username as a Staff Member, Administrator, or Mentor. As Vinnie said, it isn't recommended to use them as it will be difficult for other members (and Staff) to contact you and will likely need your UID to find out your exact username, which can be a pain in the ass sometimes. |
