Intro and Requirements

Hey and welcome to my first tutorial, which will probably lack pictures because I don't think I have enough posts for that.
So expect links to Gyazo photos for the remainder of this tutorial. I was having trouble installing and getting VB6 ready on my Windows 7 computer and I did not find anything about this on the HackForums so I decided this would be a great thing to give out to the community.
Some things that may be required are:
  • a decent download speed(if you wan things to go faster),
  • a decent understanding of the english language,
  • ability to follow exact directions,
  • obviously a version of Windows newer than XP(because the install works just fine on XP),
  • and last but also foremost, the ability to read the entire thread.

But I digress, enjoy the tutorial, if you're into enjoying learning.
______

Downloading VB6 Enterprise

Ok so the first step is to download VB6, I have uploaded it to Mediafire but I am sure it will be taken down so if you could leave a response to a better place to upload it I would very much appreciate it.
You can download this mediafire.com/?yy34yc1ex8izahy
This download is provided by a torrent created by audi-44 at kickass.so, so thank them. Hmm I feel like I shouldn't have made this its own section but meh don't feel like changing it.
______

Installing using Correct Procedure

Ok this section will definitely be longer than the latter haha 😝
Once you have downloaded the ISO file via whatever that section above told you to do, you're going to want to extract it with WinRar or another extraction tool. I recommend extraction but you can also mount the iso as a disk via Daemon Tools Lite or another like program. In this tutorial I will assume you extracted it. An example of this is below:

After you have extracted the file, navigate to the directory where you have extracted it, right click on SETUP.EXE then select Properties.

In the Properties window navigate to the compatibility tab, check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for: " then in the drop down box select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" then find the check box that says "Run this program as an administrator" and check that box then hit "OK"

Start SETUP.EXE, Agree to the agreement and such then when you hit where it asks for a product ID then enter the following: 881-7306462

Continue through the installation like I am sure all you big boys and girls can do. Windows will complain saying its not compatible. After this InstallShield will pop up and hang for a few seconds depending on the computer you have. At this point it will ask you what to install, only select the following and the rest should be left unchecked:
  • Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0
  • ActiveX
  • Data Access
  • and Graphics

Well I mean you can install the others but its legit a waste of space if you have a small sized SSD like mine, you're concerned about space for applications you would like to start up fast. Hit continue and the setup will finish in less than 30 seconds, but will hang for a good 12 until it tells you its done. A new window will pop up and ask you to install a bunch of shit that was meant for 90's computers, don't do any of that. Basically keep hitting next until it goes away. Congrats you've installed VB6, but if you're cool, you're gonna wanna speed up the GUI, in the next section. Boy I really hope I can post pictures. Also Links...
______

Fixing that Shitty GUI

All riigghhtt! Now we're getting to the good part. In this part we're gonna speed up that super super shitty GUI, because if you're anything like me you're gonna notice that its really slow and resizing isn't the best
Browse the location where you installed VB6. By default(64bit), the path is
Code
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\VB98
Right click the VB6.exe program file, and click properties
Click on the Compatibility tab.
Slap a check in each of these checkboxes:
  • Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
  • Disable Visual Themes
  • Disable desktop composition
  • Disable display scaling on high DPI settings
  • Run as an administrator

After changing all of that you should start up VB6 and notice a complete difference. Thank you for reading and have a splendid day! Do not forget to leave a post down below to keep this thread near the top. Leave a rating as well for my first tutorial and also suggestions for future tutorials. Sorry about the no embedded pictures, don't have 50 posts yet and I'm not upgraded. 🙂
