I really like Romance and Action.
Any suggestion is appreciated.

* - ℛiver - Dec 31, 2014

I suggest watching Kyoukai no Kanata, it complies with both of those genres.

Best Romance anime I've personally ever seen would be Sakurasou no Pet na Konojo.

As for action here's a list.
Attack on Titan
Highschool DxD(also romance)
Kill la Kill!
Zankyou no Terror
TOKYO GHOUL>>>

Sword Art Online - One of the poorest excuses for romance/action shows out there, but it might suit your taste.

Check it out.

I'll recommend you to read the stickies, you can get some pretty awesome stuff there actually ;).

Anyways here you go, have fun with this list:

Some of my favorites from there are Inuyasha, Rurouni Kenshin, Mirai Nikki, Shakugan no Shana, Saikano, Vampire Knight, D.N.Angel, Elfen Lied.

Kek one of the few shows that actually shows characters in a relationship that actually do couple things like a normal boyfriend/girlfriend, you're right terrible excuse for romance, you're better off watching a good romance like Tokyo Ravens where there's absolutely nothing between the characters until the last episode and it's not even satisfying.

I mean unless of course you're talking about SAO after the first arc, then I completely agree 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Despite bullshit(romance) being my favorite genre, there's always too much bullshit to really enjoy it.

I'd Suggest-
SAO (Stop after like episode 14 when they beat the game)
Elemental Gelade
Eden of the East

Watch Kill la Kill it is literally amazing

* - Nervo - Dec 31, 2014

I just finished watching Kiss X Sis and it was pretty good imo, it's even recommended here.
You should give it a try.

...? I don't know if you're trolling or not, but I'll assume that you aren't.

It had one of the most unrealistic romantic development of any shows I've ever watched. If you call that "normal", then you need to get your brain checked.

Boy meets girl -> boy does something cool for girl -> girl falls head over heels for boy -> confession -> mutual feelings -> suddenly start living together?

Wat. Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention this happens in the span of like 3 episodes. fffffssss.

Tokyo Ravens didn't even have romance as one of its genres. I found the romance in that show to be unique compared to this "romance" in SAO, which is basically copy/pasted shit. And what was up with that possible incest love interest with Suguha? It seems like the authors of SAO were just trying to please every single fetish/weird thing some of the members of the anime fanbase take interest in. They probably hoped that if all else fails, their cliches will at least click with some people (and apparently it did enough to give the show one of the most undeserving ratings on MAL).

If you honestly think SAO was a good romance anime, you have quite a bit to catch up on. Spice and Wolf, Mirai Nikki, hell even School Days (with the first two being overhyped by fans and the third one just being realistic) is more romantic/"real" than this shit.

Regardless, if there was one thing in that series that shined (even if everything else was shit), it was the soundtrack. The OP and ED, along with tracks like "A Tender Feeling", are good enough to listen to by themselves. That deserves some props IMO. Even the SAO haters have got to agree with me on here. Hell, the OST alone almost justifies watching this show, but I believe that since everything else was a bit lackluster, it's up to the viewer to decide whether or not they're going to spend their time watching this (since after all, it is 25 episodes).

Don't get me wrong. SAO was decent (at least, the first 14 episodes were). I just don't think it deserved the hype it got while it was airing, and it definitely doesn't deserve how well it is rated now.

It was a span of 2 years? In the real world people just hook up, there's very very rarely ever a chase at all, it's "Hey want to go see a movie?" "Ok." Not I'm going to hang out with this girl for years, accidentally brush up against her hand and blush then like six months later I get a peck under some fireworks or cherry blossoms. I mean that's entertaining and all but every now and then I'd like to see something happen, I want to see the characters I'm rooting for actually do something before like final minute and a half of a series, I want to see what happens after that and not see some stupid tsundere where even after a big romantic development happens their guards still up and it's like nothing ever happened.

But I do agree, Yuno is very realistic.

Not sure why to mention incest though when I said only the first arc?

I was against the hype as well, I didn't watch SAO for a year just because of it. The ONLY thing done right in my opinion was the relationship in the first arc, everything after that has been pure shit with a few very slightly decent moments here and there.

We're talking about the anime here, not the light novels (OP asked for anime recommendations, so idk why you're being so anal about this).

In the anime, it was ambiguous that two years had passed. Maybe if the timeskips in the show didn't exist, they wouldn't further complicate the already poorly structured plot line.

--

If you really want to see a serious romance (or one done right), watch Nodame Cantabile, Hachimitsu to Clover, Kimi ni Todoke, NANA, and White Album 2. Also, you'll find countless of other "realistic" romance anime targeted toward girls (shoujo).

To call SAO, at least the anime (I haven't read the light novels), something unique in the romance department is comparable to completely ignoring the existence of these shows. Sure, they're in a different genre, but some of them (especially NANA), portray romance and human nature so realistically and beautifully that it tugs at (or in some cases, breaks) your heart strings. These shows are true masterpieces in the truest sense of the word. They're by no means perfect, but they're definitely worth their ratings and deserve to be called "romances."

--

And yes, a batshit crazy girl who's madly in love with someone because of her own selfishness is realistic.

...

I will say White album was exactly what I'm into until the ending. I'm just into anything that actually shows intimacy which is not very common in anime (I mean actually show, not hint).

Watch NANA and Nodame Cantibelle. I feel like we're getting off topic here though lol.

OT: OP, if you like action/romance, you'd be hard pressed to find one that actually does both genres justice. It's either a pure action with stamped on romance (which is the case in like 99% of action shows), or romance with barely any action (again, this is the case with 99% of romance shows).

If you don't actually care too much about this, then I humbly present to you my recommendation list (sorry if I made a bunch of mistakes, I'm running off of like 2 hours of sleep lol).

Guilty Crown
Zero no Tsukaima (Main heroine is a bit annoying though)
Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei
Romeo x Juliet
Kaze no Stigma
Campione!: Matsurowanu Kamigami to Kamigoroshi no Maou (harem)

Those are all I can think of for now. I'll keep looking and update this post accordingly.
