I want to create a web / android application API (API and Android Studio) - SIM-1550131 - Feb 3, 2015 I have a question for you. I want to create an API that can go out to my web server everyday and grab one string of data which will be a daily quote and the relay this data back on to the app and put it into the top of the list everyday. I'm not too sure how to do this and have zero experience with this and I'm trying to learn to add this to my application. Thank you so much!! 🤝 * - Sakuto - Feb 3, 2015 Just basic HTTP request, if you know nothing about Application Development / Website development it will be very hard to do. So the better option is to post in the Service Request Section, otherwise, you should add more details like : What do you have at the moment (Application, server, scripts to display a line ?) * - SIM-1550131 - Feb 3, 2015 (Feb 3, 2015 02:46 PM)Sakuto Wrote: Just basic HTTP request, if you know nothing about Application Development / Website development it will be very hard to do. That's what I'm currently doing, but how do I go about the request? I'm following a tutorial on writing the code in the app, but can I get the request from like a text file the pulls one line per day? * - Sakuto - Feb 3, 2015 So, in my mind it goes like this : 1) PHP Pages who just print the sentence you want. (Nothing hard in it) 2) Simple HTTP Request (https://developer.android.com/training/volley/simple.html) on the page, and store the result in the way you want. You also need to store the date of the retrieved sentence 3) Check on your application if the current date is different from the stored date, if yes, go to point 1, if no, do nothing. 4) Simply display your sentence where you want. I don't really understand what you are not understanding. And you did not really answered to my questions :p * - Warren Buffett - Feb 4, 2015 Well about API's, you should check out REAL API. It might actually help you in this case. |
