Hey HF
I just thought of a suggestion and I think that it could be a nice little feature to be added. I've used search but it didn't come up with anything.
Alright so basically this is the idea:
Guy1: hey this is my reply
Guy2: @Guy1 yeah thats cool m8
Now when Guy2 mentions Guy1 it would make the text italic so you get @Guy1 and it would link to his last reply in the thread before you posted in it. So kind of an alternative for quotes.
I know it could be messy but I just came up with it.

Yeah this one and a notification when someone "tags" you in a post.
buuut i'm sure omni has his reasons why he hasn't improved the post system.
I honestly think he should at least TRY it and see how people like it. I'm sure it will get out of hand though... but still.

Plus it has a huge load on the servers.
Notifications are off the table. However, what OP is saying is a bit different. Its like a quote without the quote.

Alerts wont be implemented for sure. Read the sticky :p
A lot of people use this in the coding section(Java to be specific) and probably a lot more sections aswell. I would like to see this :p

I have read the sticky but I still think omni should TRY it and see how it works.
If omni started implementing everything everyone suggested this forum would be shit and look like a toolbar spam from the 90s. Although I honestly believe this is something he should at least try.

Well I'm not saying we're that important but I am saying that people want to know when they are mentioned. This will also create better communication among the forums.
But omni if you're reading this: Keep doing what you're doing ... some how you never fuck up. (sorta) :P

If I'm understanding you correctly you can pretty much already do this with quotes by clicking the little blue/purple arrow next to "(username) Wrote:" in the quote.

These type of resources intense actions won't be added or explored as options until we are on our upgraded servers. Every post has to be parsed with the @username then compared against existing usernames. Also what happens when a user changes his name?

When using @username, it could automatically link to UID, and then change username based on that when viewing post?

This won't really fit onto HF with the special characters in place.

It sounds great and when a user changes usernames, the @user would automatically change.
