Anyone still use TrueCrypt? - Tron40 - Mar 5, 2015 I've heard it has problems, but it's working for me so I still use it. I also have TC containers in a flash drive in another location to keep my files backed up on it while staying private at the same time. Switching to another encrypter would mean having to delete everything on my flash drive and re-backing up everything again, plus getting used to a new and unfamiliar system on my computer. My big fear is that my computer crashes and needs its OS reinstalled, and then I find TC no longer available to download and then I wouldn't be able to open the containers on my flash drive to access my backup files. I see they recommend Ciphershed as an alternative, but I can't find any opinions about it, and a search on this site turned up no results. Hmmm. So, does anyone else here still use TC, or is it being completely abandoned? * - blackknight_ - Mar 5, 2015 Search up "VeraCrypt" Its basically true crypt but up 2 date. * - HF-India - Mar 6, 2015 I still uses TC because I 'm on Win-7! * - Kogan - Mar 6, 2015 (Mar 5, 2015 03:20 PM)๖ۣۜblackknight_™ Wrote: Search up "VeraCrypt" Its basically true crypt but up 2 date. Thanks for this, I wasn't even aware that a "newer" version of TC came out, guess I wasn't in the loop, haha. I'm still running truecrypt, the last version they released before they shut down. * - Tron40 - Mar 7, 2015 (Mar 6, 2015 03:05 PM)Kogan Wrote: Thanks for this, I wasn't even aware that a "newer" version of TC came out, guess I wasn't in the loop, haha. So am I. So if I uninstall TC and then install Veracrypt, will it be able to open my TC containers? I did a tutorial search of Veracrypt and discovered that it looks EXACTLY like TC. Whether it can still access TC containers or not is still a question. Looking the same (at least the interface) and being able to access containers created by a different program may be two different things. |
