is this something you would potentially pay to know?

I have that on my front door, and I know how to open them.

You need to invest about 5$.

Lol no problem, I have a link to allot of documentation on it if you wish for it. It's kinda my favorite field of research so I have allot on it, I just didn't want to flood with my jibber jabber. If you want you can actually PM me and I'll give you my skype.
But ya here's the link to the defcon talk that got me interested in RFID hacking originally. Oh and thanks for the rep

Alright firstly identify what frequency the cards are running on.
Purchase a card reader/writer in that frequency.
Clone a card.

Sorry to put it like that but it's about the only way that I know of.

As far as hardware goes you aren't going to be able to read these types of chips with a $50 reader off eBay, you will most likely need the "Pr0xmark" which operates in multiple frequencys and runs you around $300-$500
