No it's not, the purpose is obvious yes, the execution is fucking terrible, there was absolutely 0 reason to have him look like that if the writer himself had downsyndrome.

If he didn't look the way he did, the story would not be set how it is.

Thought I should bring up this post this instead of creating a new thread.
I started watching this after this thread was posted and watched 2 episodes and dropped it probably because of the same reason everyone else might have dropped it. About a few days ago however I decided to pick it up again and give it another shot. I'm surprised, I actually like it. I'm currently on episode 16 and while it is a little bit too cheesy I have a feeling something must happen soon. I'll keep watching it, finish it with the hopes that something that will turn the tides will happen. It's way too monotone at the moment. Everything's going way too well. I feel like I'm watching the filler episodes of Supernatural in which the brothers just go on hunting some random ghosts instead of progressing the story.
Oh well, we'll see how it ends. I think there's about 8 days left until the series ends.

So they wait until the final 2 episodes to add a plot twist, the end off the second to last episode on a cliffhanger, really.
EDIT: Just realized, after 23 episodes Madhouse is making this anime, and that explains everything

I didn't watch Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso but I watched Toradora and well, I enjoyed it a lot but this ? Nahh, it's alright, kind of funny actually at some points but other than that I don't know... I'm yet to be impressed by it.
It's true, the first 2 episodes are kind of hard to watch but after that the story goes on better. Give it a 3 episode try, who knows, maybe you'll pick it up and finish it D:
