Friends are basically people that you use when needed and they use you when needed. As long as the using is relatively equal then it's considered a good friendship. There's gonna be some usage, but as long as it doesn't go overboard then it should be all good. From what you've said so far I can't tell if you're not getting any use of the friend or not. If you're not then fuck that person and move on! Not getting my knife and I don't get anything in return.

I feel exactly like that. Not to be douchey or narcissistic but I would have to say I'm a pretty nice guy. People in this world love to take advantage over someones kindness or weakness, and that is very sad. Sorry about you and your friends.

I use to talk to him, I bought him a knife a long ass time ago, we used to be best friends, but I stopped talking to people as I was to busy with life and other shit, he never spent a single fucking penny on me though.

This always happens to me (read my older thread), I had a friend that pretty much lived in my house at the time, and I was talking to him about a person I hate, He has talked to the person I hated before, he then made me ride along on my bike up to a shady ass area where I got the shit beaten out of me...

Sounds like you choose the wrong people to be friends with OP, I personally only like having online friends and out of all of them I only have 4 that I trust and have been mates with for longer than 2 years. In saying this we obviously have times where we argue and shit talk then stop talking for like a month.
I prefer my own company so making friends IRL is fucking irritating for me.
EDIT: I also have spent money on them, bought them games and shit before. I only ever do this when I am financially able and never go in with the mindset of getting something in return.
