[Showcase] Caesar Cipher STABLE - v1.00 - Infernumi - Apr 11, 2015 Caesar Cipher STABLE - v1.00 - By Iyyel Hello there guys and girls! Today I decided to make a little showcase of my encryption software for you. The program is still in beta state as the name suggests, because there is still a few minor bugs and such that will be fixed in the final version of the program. So let's get started with the show, and make sure to be prepared for a surprise at the end of the thread. Table of Contents
1. Default ![]() This is what you will see after you have launched the application. You will see two text areas where the user can type in either decrypted or encrypted text, as well as the control buttons and the shift value to the right of the text areas. 2. FAQ ![]() The FAQ tab is filled with all of the information you would possibly want about the software and how to operate it. As well as having relevant information about the developer if any contact would be necessary. 3. Export ![]() The export button is used for when the user wants to output whatever is written in the encrypted and decrypted tabs, as well as the shift value plus additional information. It will make a .txt file called CaesarCipherText in a folder named CaeserCipher in the C:\ directory. 4. Clear ![]() The clear button lives up to its name. It just clears both the decrypted and the encrypted tabs free for text, so they are ready to be used for a fresh start. 5. Shift ![]() This is where you insert the shift value you want the Caesar Cipher to use to encrypt the decrypted text with. An example of a instance with shift value 1 is shown in the above picture. The shift value can both be negative or positive. 6. Decrypt ![]() When the decrypt button is clicked, it takes the text from the 'Encrypted' text area and runs it through a decryption algorithm with the shift value as input, and then outputs the decrypted text inside the 'Decrypted' area. 7. Encrypt ![]() The encryption button is used when the user wants to encrypt the text inside the 'Decrypted' tab based on the inserted shift value. 8. Known bugs Currently there is only one known bug in the software. There is no scrollability in the two text areas, which might be quite frustrating if working with bigger texts. If you find any bugs, please report them in the thread or PM them to me. Thank you. 9. Surprise
Since this is beta state software, I am willing to release the program for free and making the source code for this version publicly accessible as well. I hope you enjoyed reading my thread about this program. I hope to make more of these showcases in the feature. Please post in the thread with your suggestions and thoughts. Thanks to all of you. Its a good starter project though, and you made a nice GUI. * - Birdperson - Apr 11, 2015 Vouch for Iyyel, never lets anyone down with his projects and software even if its Beta. Can't wait for future projects, keep up the good work! * - Infernumi - Apr 11, 2015 (Apr 11, 2015 05:34 PM)beardog108 Wrote: This is pretty cool I guess but there are already tons of programs that can do this and online apps. Yeah, I am aware of that. I mostly did this project because I am interested in encryption and wanted to try to implement it in a project of my own. Thanks a lot for the comment! :) (Apr 11, 2015 05:35 PM)Gali98 Wrote: Vouch for Iyyel, never lets anyone down with his projects and software even if its Beta. Thanks my friend. Can only say the same to you. :) * - ☕⚛Austin⚛☕ - Apr 11, 2015 Keep up the good work this section needs to have more showcases/src releases. Thread design is really sexy. Spoiler (Click to View) * - Initial - Apr 11, 2015 I'm quite impressed with this. Hope that there is more to come. Keep doing what you're doing, it'll help out tons of members. * - WhiteBoiFromAfrica - Apr 12, 2015 Vouch for Iyyel. His a really good coder. * - Infernumi - Apr 12, 2015 (Apr 11, 2015 08:31 PM)☕⚛Austin⚛☕ Wrote: Keep up the good work this section needs to have more showcases/src releases. It really motivates me. :) Thank you so much. (Apr 12, 2015 01:25 AM)WhiteBoiFromAfrica Wrote: Vouch for Iyyel. Thanks white boii. ;) I'm not that good yet though! :D * - casuall - Apr 12, 2015 Thanks for sharing, its interesting for me to see the source as a newbie. I noticed that it does some very basic crypting - specific letters always crypted the same? * - Infernumi - Apr 12, 2015 (Apr 12, 2015 03:25 AM)manwiss Wrote: Thanks for sharing, its interesting for me to see the source as a newbie. Well, what a Caesar Cipher does essentially is to shift in the letters according to the shift value and the alphabet. As shown in the examples, a shift value of 1 would make 'ABC' -> 'BCD' because 1 makes it shift one place to the right in the alphabet. You can shift left too by given the shift value a negative integer. :) * - MrOrang - Apr 12, 2015 Nice little program you made man! One thing I don't understand is the export functionality though. So it just exports the encrypted & decrypted text to a file? It would be cool if we had more of these type of threads in this section. * - Infernumi - Apr 12, 2015 (Apr 12, 2015 05:42 AM)Looka Wrote: Nice little program you made man! Thanks so much for the feedback my friend. Glad to see you like it. About the export functionality, yes that is essentially what it does. Exports the decrypted and encrypted text into a small .txt file. (formatted, of course.) Useful? Probably not, but I liked to learn how to export files and make the program make the path itself. Thanks. :) * - Bibl - Apr 12, 2015 I recommend that you separate the UI stuff from the functionality(the encryptor/decryptor/file stuff) so if someone wants to encrypt something really long then it won't freeze the UI while it operates. * - Infernumi - Apr 12, 2015 (Apr 12, 2015 01:32 PM)dup2_x2 Wrote: I recommend that you separate the UI stuff from the functionality(the encryptor/decryptor/file stuff) so if someone wants to encrypt something really long then it won't freeze the UI while it operates. Sounds like a good idea. Thanks a lot for the input. How would I accomplish this though? * - Infernumi - Apr 18, 2015 Hello again guys! I am happy to announce that the first stable (well, I would consider at least) release of Caesar Cipher is now available to download in the main post of this thread. This program will however, not be open source, but the v0.70 beta version will definitely persist. I got a lot of help from members from this fantastic community, without the tips and tricks I wouldn't be able to do this. Change log: Scroll panes fixed. Export modified to work with more systems than Windows. (Linux, OSX. NOT TESTED YET.) Small performance adjustments and fixes. Grammar corrections and polishing. There is of course always room for bugs to still be there, so if anyone of you experience anything, please do let me know. As always, thanks to all of you. Iyyel. |
