Newbie, want to do a project in Python - Mate. - Apr 17, 2015

Hi, I am fairly new to Python and we have an open ended project assignment. I want to do it in Python. Can someone give me suggestions on what should be a good project/game to make for a beginner?

Why don't you try something like "Space Invaders"? Its pretty common so you will find infinite help on the same. Also, It is a very good project to work on because It involves a good amount of effort both mathematically as well as on the programming front.
If you need help, do PM me, I've worked on several similar small-scale games using python.

Is it a game you're looking to make? How about a command line program? The reason I ask is I would play around with scapy, not only is it a lot of fun but it's pretty easy to write something cool in about 15 lines of python. Let me know if you want to see some examples, I would be happy to post some up.

The game has to be complex. I have made 2048 using Snap! and was wondering if I can replicate it in Python and add the AI component.
How difficult do you think it'll be do that in Python? 🤨

AI can get a little confusing at times and that's coming from experience but Python does indeed have some AI support but you're not building a neural network so it'll be relatively easy. You may want to look at a module called pyevolve.

You could maybe do something with a Pi. Perhaps some sort of interface for your LAN devices; you could easily add encryption to Python code for secure connections back and forth. Or what about something that uses a website's API?

Depending on when your project needs to be finished look up the Onion Omega project. A small, Pi-like device built on the cloud and looks very promising for high-level language developers. I, myself, plan on getting one of these and giving a quadcopter GPS support for tracking and tracing a "stolen" phone then take pictures, with picture recognition support, of the "thief". Go crazy, if you can get hold of one of them soon.

Here's some other ideas I googled: reddit /r/beginnerprojects
I'd love to play a Python-Pokemon-based game :)

Starting to practice Python with small projects/challenges is a good way to go, IMO. I've been using this site and it's great http://codingbat.com/

HTH.. and have fun. :)

Hey.

Just wanted to let you know I saw your PM but I haven't reached the post count to reply to you yet. I will do if I ever meet it. Only 9 more to go.

In response, though, I don't really see why. You can use cgi in Python, somehow, but I've never done it myself. I'm not really in the business of developing web apps with Python.
And I don't understand how 2048 works either as I've never even heard about it. I'd suggest looking up pygame and having a look at some tutorials. You may not find a way to replicate your 2048 game but it may give you some other ideas for your project.

What area of computing do you like most, or what appeals to you? I suggest you read about what ever you like at the RFC docs, then Google what module is the best for what you want to do. Afterwards, 'Module, how to', and your on your way.
