Web Development vs Software Development - -VenoM - May 12, 2015

Hey everyone,

I've been looking for summer internships, and I was contacted by a company that did web development in C#. I do have a fair amount of experience in C#, but not as much of the web development side of it. How much different is the web development side from the coding people would do in school that is solely based in terminal/cmd?

I am pretty experienced with PHP as well. Would it be easy for me to pick up web development for this internship?

Thanks for any help you can give.

The job site lists it as " C# Web Developer Assistant ".

How much different is ASP from C#?

ASP is a scripting language.

You were presumably looked at as an ASP.Net Developer. If your experience in C# is limited to console applications i would suggest declining because ASP.Net and Consoles are two completely different nut shells imo.

Also while your experience at PHP may seem like an advantage, again php is a scripting language and even worse it is basically the polar opposite of ASP.Net which insists on having a MVC (Model (Data), View (Html/Page), Controller (Logic)) approach for every type of website, while php allows you to literally mix and match where your logic and view's are, unless you use a MVC framework.

If you really want to take a stab at this job, then you should take a stab at ASP.Net, rather then asking theoretical questions and "ifs".

Just my 2 cents~

Web Application doesn't necessarily mean ASP.Net, but ya it's pretty different than application programming. But ya you could simply be hosting a VPS or whatever and running your console app on it, for instance a game server or whatever.

Technically they could have their website run on C#.

Just write a http server and done, you can now serve HTML.

... or just use ASP.NET <___<

Web development is a form of software development. ASP.NET uses C# as its backend language... You still use HTML, JS etc for the front end but rather than use PHP you use C#; which I prefer. It will not be much different from normal CMD apps etc other than a few new conventions, and libraries to learn.
