Not related to joining, but I see official groups with userbars and priveliges and shit. What's the point in joining these unofficial ones? Can you socialise with one and other and trade skillsets? Can someone explain?

If the only reason you join a group is for a userbar and forum privileges then you are missing out on the whole point of a group.
