Aware me on CGI and why does everyone hate it? - Chad ThunderCock - Jul 8, 2015

I keep seeing everyone hate on CGI and I have no idea what the fuck it is and why it's so bad

Basically an easy way for animators to animate something by using some sort of 3D object instead of drawing it like the other things in the anime. The reason it's hated, I believe, is because it can look extremely out of place in many situations and is not in style with the rest of the anime.

Personally I don't mind too much unless it actually looks stupid, which there are some examples of. I see a lot of shows use it to animate cars for example which isn't too bad. But CGI in general is a bit distracting I'd say. I think they use it for objects that rotate a lot etc cause that's much easier with a 3D model than having to draw the object over and over again for each bit it rotates.

Most of the time CGI doesn't bother me, not unless it sticks out so much that I can't pay attention to anything else.

CGI is very infrequently done right. It's use in anime is becoming larger and larger, and it can often be an "easy way out" in animation and film. It's pretty commonly used now due to how cost-effective it is as opposed to traditional hand drawn animation. Like Zyvox said, it can look extremely out of place. For me, it can kill a show, but I'm pretty biased against CGI.

I honestly don't mind it too much, but the complaint I hear is that they slap something 3D onto a 2D plane and it just doesn't look right. Aldnoah.Zero, Black Bullet and Guilty Crown used CG, if you watched any of those.

The Answer is "It All Comes Down to How They Use It"

It looks like shit no matter how you do it.

Sometimes CGI looks really good, and fits in perfectly. Other times it stands out like a sore thumb. I really depends on the anime, and how its used. Mostly is fine. Hope the CGI in Kancolle is improved. It was really bad...

This. This is CGI done right. Its on Netflix/Kissanime. Dissapointing in a few places, but most of the visuals were good.

I usually notice it but i just tempt to ignore it or try too. but some people do get annoyed by it

^ This. I normally like well done CGI mixed with hand drawn animations. Looks stellar when done properly.

But as you probably see yourself. Majority of the time, it looks generic, and worse of all, the quality looks so out of place. I mean, when there's like an army of monsters or something, they're usually all CGI and their movements look clunky, unrealistic in a 2D plane, and overall makes it look as if they are laggy in 720/1080p.

Not sure if you watch Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks, but that's some great CGI mixed with animations. Hell it's the only reason why that anime adaption franchise is doing well lol.

I didn't sleep at all last night so probably a bad idea, I should be asleep all now but still don't feel the slightest bit tired :l
Aside from the looks of the movie, how would you rate?
