Safety Precautions? - Pyrocynical - Jul 11, 2015

So I recently got a Steam Stealer Virus on my computer , it was undetectable but with the help of a certain user I found some hidden files and had them deleted. The anti-virus didn't find anything, so to make sure, any other safety precautions i should take?

Occasionally scan your computer with your anti-virus and an anti-malware program such as Malware Bytes. Don't download anything suspicious (and don't run them). If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Use separate passwords for your accounts, especially your e-mail. Use 2FA where available for your accounts.

Use your brain, thats the best anti virus you have.

update : Would restoring my computer to the point before installing anything remove the virus?

Maybe, it can infect restore points, its best to wipe the harddisk to get it off.

If you are really paranoid then first, I would try running Hitmanpro which you can download from here http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro/ if that still does not find anything, then I would install Comodo internet security from here https://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/free-internet-security.php and once it is installed, open it click on tasks, firewall tasks, open advanced settings click on unrecognized files and right click on anything that looks suspicious and click on add to blocked files. If all of this does not find anything, then open Comodo click scan and run a rating scan. Click on show-unknown files and look for the malware their. If you find the malware right click on it, click jump to folder and hold shift while right clicking on the file and hit delete. If it does not let you delete it download Malwarebytes file assassin from here: https://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin/ navigate to the file and delete it.
