Installing omnicoind -- same error every time. - SomeWhiteGuy - Jul 19, 2015

I'm continuously getting the same error, over and over, while trying to install omnicoind on my ubuntu vps.
error (Click to View)

I've tried reinstalling ubuntu and adding more memory, as I thought that was the case the first time (but as you can see in the above screen shot, I have plenty of free memory).

I'm stumped... any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your VPS provider is killing the process because it's bursting on memory or CPU for too long. The best you can do is compile it on a server without this limitation. This could be a virtual machine or just your desktop computer if it runs the same OS version.
You're checking memory after the process is killed. If you want to see how much it has while it's running, you will have to open a new terminal and run "watch --interval 0.5 free -m" while the compiler is running.

It got up to 657mb while it was actually running, but I suppose it could've been more at some point.
Neither of your suggestions are an option for me, sadly.

How much memory would be an appropriate amount? I'll just upgrade my shit even further I suppose.

Upgrading would be pretty wasteful as you will only need it when compiling and compiling is a one-off thing. Maybe you can just use a Debian build, since Ubuntu is based on Debian.

EDIT: If you have set up an account with Amazon Web Services you can just rent an EC2 instance by the hour and use that to compile and download the daemon. You will likely not be putting down more than 20-50 cents for that if you remember to terminate the instance and delete the disk image afterwards.

Got it, thanks.

Also, for the api, is it the same as the bitcoin one or is there separate documentation for that?

It's pretty much the same. Some of the methods may be missing, though. Just run "omnicoind help" to get a list of available methods.

Gotcha.

Thanks for the assistance!
