Differences from Community College and State college? - thegreat23 - Aug 11, 2015

I'm transferring from a community college to a state school. What are some of the changes I will come across? I got a 3.0 gpa at Community college so I don't know if I might have more difficulty at State college. Is the only difference lower age of students and more social?

Community college and university are very different. Community schools are one college and don't specialize in just one thing. A university or state school have different colleges inside of it, thus giving you a more specialized education in a major.

For example, You cannot major in a community college as they only offer up to an Associates Degree due to the fact that they do not specialize in specific areas. A university, however, allows you to select a major and take classes specifically in that college on campus. If I major in Computer Engineering at a university, I will most likely take classes in the College of Engineering on campus, whereas if I was in community college, they would simply teach me general education classes.

As far as the difficulty, the work will be more difficult and you can expect it to take more time to complete if you really want to do well. Look at school as a full-time job and give your everything. Some jobs hire some students over others for G.P.A. alone.

What are you majoring in? I can give you a good idea what you will be doing.
