so me & my friend got into an argument about the message behind shiki. The show makes it look like at the end the humans were the monsters and my friend agreed that the humans were the monsters. I think that for every action there's a reaction and the only reason the humans acted that way was because they were under attack, i will say it got out of hand at some parts but in all it was self defense. I would love to know what you think

I would not side with either because in the end they are just two species trying to survive. Of course, to humanity the Shiki are considered monsters, but that's only because humanity is applied to the scenario.

The Shiki didn't want to kill the humans, as you could clearly see that Touru guy was crying after every victim he killed.... on the other hand the humans mercilessly killed the Shiki and even some other humans ( watch the specials ). They showed no remorse, they didn't fight back with the humans either even though I am pretty sure they could have easily killed them (thats a different discussion though).
