Username History Changes - Omniscient - Sep 9, 2015 I'm making a policy change to the Username History feature of HF. Requests to have old usernames removed for fear of doxing or other malicious activity has continually increased at a steady pace. As a policy we do not alter username history for anyone. I do however understand that members may want some of their history removed. I need to balance that with the members ability to track possible scammers. So what I've done is altered the results to only show the past 6 months of username changes. Anything older than that is only visible to Admins. Also a Username History Search will still pull up results of old usernames but that doesn't function by UID. If you're worried about an old username being used against you for malicious purpose well now you have to just wait 6 months and the name will no longer be viewed from your profile. I hope this helps those who weren't smart enough to not use a username that could potentially be used against them. Thank you. * - Update - Sep 9, 2015 Sounds like a good change. 🤝 * - Grievοus - Sep 9, 2015 This would've been useful for me back in December. 😝 Thank you for adding this but I'm sure there are ways around it though (old quotes from old threads, etc) Love all the recent work you've been putting into the site. * - Raymond Reddington - Sep 9, 2015 I am sure this is not for the request I made couple of days before? Thanks a lot Omni, I feel safe now xD. * - Stаlkеr - Sep 9, 2015 Sounds pretty nice thanks for the update 👍 * - Omniscient - Sep 9, 2015 (Sep 9, 2015 01:49 PM)Grievous Wrote: This would've been useful for me back in December. 😝 And that's true. Which is partially why I don't bother altering username history. While it's helpful to remove it that still isn't a fool-proof way of protecting an identity. Fact is that members need to show caution from day one of their membership. You can't wait a year and decide your security is important. Security has to be important immediately. * - Meow - Sep 9, 2015 Finally, thanks a lot for this Omni! * - 240sx - Sep 9, 2015 Omg fuck yes nice update I love this new idea * - Paul Wilson - Sep 9, 2015 Yes yes yes, this is a fantastic idea, best of both worlds. * - • Kyle • - Sep 9, 2015 Thanks for this, suggested it a while back. Glad you went through with it too. EDIT: maybe making the 6 month thing to 1 year can decrease scams too * - Grievοus - Sep 9, 2015 (Sep 9, 2015 01:51 PM)Omniscient Wrote: And that's true. Indeed, that seems to be the mistake a lot of us make as users here and get our heads too far up our asses to realize what could happen with old data that was posted. Have you ever thought of having quotes update with the current users username, not like it's needed due to what you said about users needing to be secure about where they're putting their information but maybe it'd cut down on some other non-needed issues? * - Gary 'Eggsy' Unwin - Sep 9, 2015 Thank you so much for adding this feature. Been so worried about sharing my HF profile with certain people due to this exact reason. * - Optimized - Sep 9, 2015 This is a really good idea I think. Nice work Omni. I think its good you listen to the suggestions like these! * - Cammy - Sep 9, 2015 Very well. Good work Omni (as always) * - Vitani - Sep 9, 2015 (Sep 9, 2015 01:56 PM)Grievous Wrote: Indeed, that seems to be the mistake a lot of us make as users here and get our heads too far up our asses to realize what could happen with old data that was posted. Hmm yeah this would be even better. Just like updating a signature on all your old threads, but then with the username. Would be awesome if this was possible, though the changes that omni made just now should already help alot. |
