In Your Opinion: What is the best lightweight windows tablet or laptop for college - Sc00by - Sep 19, 2015

Hello

Have around a $500 budget for a new tablet or laptop for school.

I'm going to be using it for just writing code in class and also just for my on the go computer.

If you could post your suggestions below that would be great.

I really like the Microsoft Surface, my roommate has one, but i'm not sure if i'll be able to find one with the right specs for the right price.

Thanks!

I would personally not go with Microsoft products, not really a fan of their laptops/tablets. I would consider going with DELL or ASUS laptops, ASUS laptop are excellent for college use (Zenbook is really decent however it is above your budget). You mentioned that you'll be mostly writing code on the computer, do you know which IDEs you will be using?

I've got a friend who's been using a Surface 3 for about a year now and he's got no complaints with it.

For $500 dollars, I doubt the OP will be able to buy a Surface 3, they are going to cost a lot more.

They start a $499, I don't see a problem.

True, but they usually don't come with a docking station or wireless keyboard. The last time I checked, the docking station and keyboard were not that cheap.
