Somatotypes are a psuedo science from the 1940's. It pretty much has no room for credibility in today's scientific community.
All these bodytypes aren't static conditions. If you've seen them in articles, they're usually just used to describe muscle mass and bodyfat ratios. The ectomorph would just be defined as a guy with little muscle mass and low body fat, the endomorph would range between a fat person with little muscle mass to a guy with a somewhat high bodyfat% range and a lot of muscle, and the mesomorph would just generally be a somewhat lean male with a reasonable to a lot of muscle mass. It doesn't define how well you put on muscle or fat or anything like that as you may have heard from some people. We tend to just not use them at all to prevent those misunderstandings.
