[Headset] Looking for a good gaming headset - Aura - Oct 10, 2015

Hi everyone 🙂

Peripherals and hardware aren't exactly my speciality, hence why I like to rely on HackForums' Hardware and Misc. Comp. Talk sections when it comes to these. Basically, I'm thinking about buying a new gaming headset since mine is about to kick the bucket (only one side is working right now and it's bothering me). I currently have a Steelseries Siberia v2 headset and I love it. I saw that the v3 was out and I'm considering buying it, but I wonder if there's other good choices. I don't need anything fancy and costly, just decent enough for me to play games, listen to music and also use Teamspeak, Skype and other VoIP clients.

If it helps, I live in Canada (Québec more precisely), althought I don't mind ordering online if there's any good deals.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

You could look through here:
GL1TCH3D's Headphone Sanctuary! by GL1TCH3D

And you can ask GL1TCH3D if you have any questions :)

I know that GL1TCH3D is the headset guru, but I didn't know that he handles gaming headsets as well 😯 And it's perfect since he lives in Québec like me 😝

Honestly I'd recommend just a good studio quality pair of headphones and investing in a mic. A good pair of headphones last way longer than most headsets :)

If you just want a decent headset get the Logitech 930 or G35. I don't know if Newegg or Amazon ship to Canada but they are super cheap on their sites. The G35 is amazing for me and the mic quality is in the higher tier for headsets.

Some people will suggest getting a headset, then a mod mic but that's pricy and you don't need it.

First thing to understand is that any USB driven headsets will have the processing done out side of the computer.

This can be good or bad. Good because if the company isn't a bunch of tards they can actually tune it to be decent.
Bad because most don't care AKA Turtle beach, razer, etc.

Right now the best headsets on the market (best headsets straight out of the box that is) are from Audio Technica and Sennheiser, both using technology developed for audiophiles in their gaming headsets.

Otherwise an alternative options is just good headphones and a mic.

Antlion modic - $30
AKG K553 - $100
(Optional Soundcard) Asus Xonar U3 - $30

(Higher in CDN of course)

While I don't use the U3 myself, I've owned it I but still use the modmic and the K551 (slightly different version of the K553).

Currently using the astell and kern AK240 as my soundcard

This is not just be fanboying, I have used many many many headsets.

By far the best/cheapest one for me is the Hyper X Cloud II.
EX: In CSGO I get called a waller so many fucking times because of how precise and far away you can sound whore.
Crystal clear sound, pretty bass filled, and HQ in general.
Great for gaming, music, and any type of communication.

I've heard good reviews about this one too but never tried it myself.
I've had the best results using good audiophile headphones though

Yup, this $100 headset beats any other gaming headset IMO (Sound Wise, not mic) and I've legit used almost everything.

Comes with great warranty as well.

Any models/series I should look at?

Will look it up, thanks! 🙂

What about wireless headsets? Are they worth it?

Wireless are a pain in the ass and you get a slight delay (Nothing serious)
you also have to factor in charging every day etc.

Because I keep on rolling with my chair on the cord, that's what broke my SteelSeries Siberia V2.
