School is teaching Python 3 but I am learning Python 2 - Enzio - Oct 12, 2015 Title says it all. Does it matter or I will be fine ? My teacher is quite a dick sometimes so I think he might refuses it lol. Also, I am reading "LearnPythonTheHardway" and "A Byte of Python" are they any good ? * - Hello Buddy - Oct 12, 2015 You could always just ask if you can learn python 3 instead of the class isn't to far in. From what I've heard though I don't think there is a massive difference between the 2 * - Enzio - Oct 12, 2015 (Oct 12, 2015 10:11 PM)Hex0 Wrote: You could always just ask if you can learn python 3 instead of the class isn't to far in. I've heard that Python 2 is better. This is why I am asking that 😵 * - Tyranus. - Oct 12, 2015 They are both better in their own ways, however if you school is going based off of Python 3, then I can assure you that you will be marked wrong if you provide P2 syntax. Little things like print vs print() or range vs xrange * - xXRippedMasterXx - Oct 12, 2015 They aren't much different. Just make the switch you won't notice much. * - zmetra - Oct 12, 2015 Stick to Python 3+. More features, bug fixes, and constant improvements. * - Slim - Oct 12, 2015 You're gonna have to go with python 3, it'll just be too confusing otherwise. * - WitchKing - Oct 12, 2015 There are very few syntax that may vary but both versions are always same so Learn python 2 and then python3 * - Enzio - Oct 12, 2015 Alright thanks for the help and any suggestions for good Python 3 books/Tutorial? * - Hello Buddy - Oct 13, 2015 https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=626170 This has a bunch of things to get you started as well as some cool project tutorials you could use to learn more from * - donkeymon - Oct 13, 2015 py3 is the future of python. I would go with the class there is nothing in python 2 you couldnt read or do if you learned python 3. * - Feanor - Oct 13, 2015 do you want to know the truth? .. you can't even tell the difference. * - Hackin - Oct 13, 2015 If you already know some python 2 python 3 will be easy to pickup, there are subtle differences like using brackets after print. * - SavageBoys - Oct 13, 2015 Its translates easily, I found a good way to get a quick look at the differences is reading the 2to3 documentation. 2to3 is a good util for doing quick conversions but its not perfect so don't depend on it, sometimes outputting the diff and doing the work yourself is best. * - Vireo - Oct 13, 2015 (Oct 12, 2015 10:13 PM)Sora123 Wrote: I've heard that Python 2 is better. This is why I am asking that 😵No. Python 3 is the future. The only differences you'll notice are some slight syntax changes, and a separation between data (bytes) and strings. |
