I am working on starting a web design forum. I need help getting started. There are two things I need help with in particular:
1) There are a lot of plugin/theme issues and site errors (using MyBB)
2) I want to know how to get people to join.
Could anyone help me get started?

1) You need to make sure the theme and plugins are compatible with your version of mybb. For example you don't want to force use a theme designed for mybb 1.6.x if you're using mybb 1.8.x
2) Once you have your forum set up, post on other forums to advertise it. Pay for banner ads on other websites (HF users who sell services or products will no doubt sell you ad space on their site). Set up social media pages and bring users in from them. Paid advertising (social media, bing, google, etc..) or just word of mouth, tell people about it.
