Looking to repair a damaged file - Tron40 - Dec 14, 2015

I just discovered that a file I wanted to keep got deleted somehow as I was attempting to move it. I then used a program called Recuva to recover it, although it was only a "partial recovery". When I click to open it (it's a png file), I get an error message saying the file may be corrupted.

So I went online looking for tools to possibly repair this file. I found one called Hetman File Repair. It looked like it would work! I downloaded and installed it, and agreed to the terms and conditions. Then I speciified the file I wanted fixed and where I wanted it to be located. Well, instead of fixing it, it then tells me that I need to go online to register my copy of Hetman. So I go to their site and click on Register, but nothing happens. So much for Hetman!

Are there any other good file repair tools out there that someone can recommend to me? I googled the subject, but only came up with Hetman and one other program that reviewers said was no good. Can't remember the name of that one.

There is very small chance you will repair the image file it depends how damage it is why don't you try recovering file with PhotoRec tool is file data recovery software designed to recover lost files including video, documents and archives from hard disks, CD-ROMs, and lost pictures (thus the Photo Recovery name) from digital camera memory. PhotoRec ignores the file system and goes after the underlying data, so it will still work even if your media's file system has been severely damaged or reformatted.
Also have try recovering image from shadow copy Windows created navigate to the folder that used to contain the file or folder, right-click it, and then click Restore Previous Versions. You can also use ShadowExplorer program as not all editions and versions of Windows have option to recovery file with Restore Previous Versions option.

I just tried the "Restore previous versions" option and got a message saying there weren't any previous versions. Then I tried Photorec. I downloaded it and ended up with something associated with Haozip. I used the repair function on it, and now it's displaying messages written entirely in Japanese. I don't know how to read Japanese, so I have no idea what's going on.

Shadow Explorer says it's for use with Vista, Win7 and 8. I'm using Win10.

I'm not sure why I'm having so much trouble with these things. I tried again to download and run Photorec, and all I get is a bunch of error messages saying that certain things are missing. I click "ok" and then it tells me something else is missing. After about 5 times of this, it closes.

So I tried ShadowExplorer. I downloaded it and tried running it. I get an error message saying something about an "unexpected exception", and then it doesn't run. I also tried extracting all files as instructed in order to make it work. It started to, and then froze up at 13%, and then all the program icons at the bottom of my screen disappeared for about 2 minutes and then came back on. The extraction and the program, along with all my other apps running at the time were closed. Now I'll have to do another virus/malware scan to make sure I didn't just download something I shouldn't have.

I'm not interested in downloading any more of these programs. They're just causing more problems.

I don't understand when you said you extracted all files from ShadowExplorer are you talking about extracting archive where ShadowExplorer store in. You need to reinstall .Net Frameworks open "Control Panel --> Programs and Features" and repair install all .Net Frameworks you may also open "Control Panel --> Programs and Features --> Turn Windows features on or off" n uncheck .Net Frameworks check box and apply settings restart your computer and recheck the check box for the Net Frameworks within "Control Panel --> Programs and Features --> Turn Windows features on or off" to reinstall .Net Frameworks.
