2 members matching my ip on cellular? - EthanX - Jan 1, 2016

I realize that you can run into this issue by using public wifi but I'm on cellular. I always checked my trust scan randomly on cellular and normally nothing but this time it says I'm matching 2 more members? Is there a chance I can run into consequences with this?

Probably not. Considering your high status, you are believable.

It happens.

I remember reading somewhere that if you're using a certain networks cellular internet that your IP can match other members that might be using that same network.

I'm sure once a staff member sees this he'll check everything out. 😉

Damn Ethan, you're so unlucky bb
What's the chance that you live close enough to two hf members that also use their cellular network for HF haha

It's not hard to find out that it's a cellular network. You will be fine.

* - Nostalginical - Jan 1, 2016

Its alright I'm sure this was a plausible case omni thought of, this is why i don't login on my phone.

* - Cyber - Jan 1, 2016

You'll be fine. As long as you don't have two accounts signed up under the same home connection you'll be good.

* - FearTheGod - Jan 1, 2016

I'm pretty sure you will be fine. I don't think they would ban a HQ member like you and think your a multi when your on that account. With 1I rep.

You will be fine. I actually had this happen to me twice and I messaged staff and it was okay :)

It checks the IP per page load (I suppose?) and not by the login IP, so it'll reset once you use an IP address that isn't used by other HF members.

Cellular networks and their customers go through a NAT gateway, though some networks may be reusing their IP addresses, I'm pretty sure. Should be no issue as I'm with Rogers and WIND Mobile in Toronto and I'm pretty sure there's a few people using HF around me at any given time.

Staff have tools to check if you used it on cellular or not. You're safe.

Same thing happens to me, just put your phone on airplane mode and take it off. It'll fix it.

You don't have to worry much.

Have you been:
- To a school
- To a school campus
- To McD's
- To a public hotspot
- To a stadium event? (IPs are shared using Natting when in a huge crowd)

Not uncommon and staff and I can tell if the IP is home or cell based.

But I want to make a comment additional to that.

I keep getting PMs like "OMG my IP matches another user..who is it."

It is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS WHO YOU MATCH IPs WITH.

I also get "User XXXX matches 3 other IPs, I just saw his Trust Scan."

DO NOT REPORT USER TO STAFF BASED ON TRUST SCAN. You should not be contacting staff about it. You should not be asking staff to review accounts based on that.

Got it!
