How to get a free $50 credit or $10 coupon from DigitalOcean - mothh - Jan 4, 2016

There are a few things you need to be able to get it.

Student GitHub pack for $50

Referral link for $10

Proof of education

Credit Card or Paypal with at least $5 on it

$50 method
For the $50, you need to go here:
https://education.github.com/pack

Click the Get you pack button and login with your GitHub account, after doing so you will need to request access to it.

You can do so by clicking Yes, I am a student:

Then you have to fill out this form:

After you have done that you have to wait a while until GitHub approves it.

You might need to send in extra information about your education and proof of scholarship.

I am not totally sure about the next part, since it has been a while since I did this, but afterwards if you got approved you will see a list with discounts/free stuff, in that list should be a coupon code for DigitalOcean which is worth $50.

It should look like this after clicking the request coupon link:

$10 method
This one is a lot easier, you just need to register on somebodies referral link, which should be hard to find.

This also helps the person who's link you use, due to if you spend $25 on DigitalOcean, he will get $25 free credit.

Both methods
You need to follow the $50 method until you get the code from GitHub, then you need to use somebodies referral link to register.

If you have done that you need to contact DigitalOcean's support and ask them if they can activate your free $50 from GitHub, they should ask for some proof of scholarship which are just some basic questions and shouldn't be too hard to do.

After you have done that you will have $60,- in your account to spend on DigitalOcean.

You will still have to pay $5,- via Credit Card or Paypal to activate your account, but that shouldn't be much a problem.

So I can make an account on DigitalOcean, use a VPN and such to use the ref link of first account to get a free $10 coupon?
Or do I need to spend $10 on the second account and will I receive $10 on my primary account?

Because its not really a secret? Most companies have some sort of student promotion.

You could have just as easily included the $15 AWS credit you get from this same offer.

Thanks for posting this. I have already signed up however wasn't aware of their $10 referral program. I believe it's important to spread awareness of this promotion run by DigitalOcean (and Github as part of their pack) because a lot of people haven't exposed themselves to cloud infrastructure and don't understand the power of it.

Do you know if 1. Free vpn's work for signuping up as a ref to your own account to get $10? 2. If you can use the same paypal to deposit $5 but with another email (sub email).

You get the free $10 when the referred person spends $10 (on top of the promotional credit I believe) and not just when they sign up.

Also when you sign up for an account and create an "instance" you need to attach a CC. I imagine if you use the same one a lot they may notice.

Digital ocean is far better, and they have better IP's so you can use them to download your own CPA downloads for example.

But why use a VPS for that if you have to do the survey anyway?

Do you not usually need a phone to do those?

Also, I have no clue how you could set up a desktop environment instead of working via console only.

Just saying it as a example to show you how much better the ip is. And nah theres loads of different things. You can do a phone one. Download one. Just a survey etc.
