I didn't want to reference the word notification in the title because those have been disapproved of on HF for as long as I can remember, but what about something simmilar to Paypal's customizable IPN where a json object is sent to the client, it could contain data like the users uid, message, message number, time stamp etc and could be used to enter draws, register user-made content and validate somebody's uid. I think it'd be a very cool idea and if they don't have an ipn it simply doesn't make a connection, I'm sure that won't take up much more bandwidth

The API is already being developed by Kondax, with Omni's direction.
It will be done relatively soon, then will go through review by Omni, and then it will be implemented, probably after the site moves to MyBB 1.8.x

It's something thought about. Just bear in mind there is a lot that needs to be done for that still.
