JUNK: AudioBooks vs Regular Books ---- Full Books vs Summaries - J. McCarthy - Jan 22, 2016

So try to read a good bit but I don't have a lot of time to constantly be pushing through books. So I figured I'd ask you guys out of curiosity.

How much do you absorb from an audiobook compared to actually reading it?

How many times do you read a book to absorb the concepts?

Do you ever read book summaries? If so how helpful are they? Do you read them before or after?

Personally:

I can go through a book a lot faster as an audiobook, I'm not sure which one I lose focus on more though. I think I remember more actually reading it.

I try to listen to an audiobook twice since I can push through them faster/more often.

I just bought my first summary so I'll see how that goes. I plan to go through the audiobook summaries first then read or listen to the full book then maybe do the summary again.

I don't find that I can visualize/imagine the story's characters, locations and events well with an audio book
Uhhh, once?
I only read them to remember what the story's about after not reading it for a long time

I guess I should clarify to the type of book I was reading.

I don't really read any story/fiction.

Typically I read business literature, self-development, biographies, or psychology books.

I would agree with you if I was reading fiction books.

I sell cheap audible acc if you are wondering. I listen to books instead of reading them, I can understand the concepts both ways, but listening is faster and more portable

I think audio books and regular books would do the same trick. I've always been someone quick to learn, so I only really need to read the book once to get it, unless it's really complex

For some reason, listening doesn't give me the pleasure that reading does. When there is a paragraph i want to re-read, I just have to move my eyes, thing that is annoying to do with an audiobook as when you go back you end up in the middle of nowhere. A small thing that is, Jesus, quite annoying.

I've been thinking about doing written summaries on audiobooks I think that may be better than trying to highlight in real ones

If you get one with an annoying voice or that chirpy sound or lip smack it's god awful
