Anyone use plex? - iNk. - Jan 25, 2016

I'm looking to really try it out however I don't know if plex is really worth my time..?

I'm thinking of just setting up on a shitty laptop and have all my media on an external HDD.

Can I have some thoughts of how you have yours setup and how you guys like it? Or dislike it

I love plex. Use it on my desktop and use the phone app to stream to my chromecast.

May I ask how big of a hard drive you have? I only have a 200GB HDD on this laptop I want to run it on however I'm looking into buying a external HDD the problem here is the laptop is 2.0 and the external HDD is 3.0... I wanna be able
To USB at 3.0 so there's not reading issues

I don't use my hard drive for anything other than pictures. But I use a # addon so I can use plex for the nice layout and phone app. You can figure it out if you find a rough file size of films.

For say 1 1080 film would be like 2gb? you get my drift?

Ah I see that makes sense. I have a different approach but I see exactly what you mean.

Do you see any benefits to plex pass? So far I don't see much besides BETA testing

I don't see any benefit besides the streaming outside your local network, also you can let your friend/family stream from your server. That's the only bonus I see.

That's what I'm trying to do. 2 friends and 2 family members outside of my network I want them to be able to stream (we're all gonna split the cost of an external HDD)
