[Report Thread] Abandoned Thread Option - Armada - Jan 28, 2016

Before I start, searched the suggestion already and found this thread.
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=4053716

This being said, Id suggest this be considered as a reporting option for thread closure, but in specific for abandoned threads.

The logic behind this, I over time have noticed a trend to new posts on long dead abandoned topics.
Many times where the OP has long been closed or abandoned account.

They can clearly not maintain the threads any longer. These threads become a breeding ground for grave digging and general post spamming.

The users usually either are trying to spam to PM privlidges with LQ "Thanks for this" posts, or simply dont realize hey this thread 4 years old the guy who made its account is closed. Eitherway, this practice brings useless dead threads back to the top of the forums and adds more clutter to sift through.

With a "Abandoned Thread" reporting option grave digging can be reduced, as well as closure of threads that no longer have a viable reason to remain open accumulating additional pointless posts.

Opinions?

Even an old thread made by a closed member can be useful, right ? And LQ posts as you describe just bum the thread, if it's a useful thread it's for the greater good of the community.

He means threads that are giving out free EBooks, or EWhore packs.

I agree, those are not the threads in specific I am refering to however.

^ This.
Example:

In this instance there was no activity for nearly 3 years and it got grave dug. Not the BEST example, but it should make the point. These threads are everywhere.

Personally I think they should just remove the 48 hour report cooldown.

Have no idea why they put that there anyways.

If they gravedig old posts with no reason, you can report them for LQP. (No reason being that OP is closed and they can't get what they posted for).
Other than that, gravedigging isn't against the rules.

Agreed, which I do but what happens in this is that specific post may, or may not be deleted, bit the dead thread remains open.

I mean I came across a thread relating to Shades plugin downloads just the other day with people still posting asking for them.

Its these instances I feel this feature would be beneficial. And of course its staffs discretion if the thread does fall in to the category.

The info and tutorial threads can remain valid and active long after the OP is gone, those threads are again not the focus.

I agree that this would be a good feature.

At the least it would allow for the thread to be closed and no way to post a reply, but it would still be shown in search results so that if it still contains useful information, we can find it.

I second this.
When I see a thread that needs to be reported it sometimes give the 48 hour error.

Then I have to PM a staff member to report it.

Grave digging isn't against the rules? uh oh, I'm going to go use the search bar now lol.. watch my rep plummet.

Maybe instead of saying "Abandoned Thread", it would have more of an appeal to say "Archives". I noticed that there is a Lite (Archive) Mode, so it appears as though something has been started...
