Recommended book to learn java? - SIM-2212192 - Feb 8, 2016

Hey, I'm going to read a book on java and hopefully learn. I've got a friend who is quite java-savvy so he'll also help me out.

Any suggestions? I heard about "Head First Java" but the author seems to say that it is for people with previous coding knowledge in something like C++ which I have none.

Thanks guys.

I'm currently wanting to create something with a good-looking GUI that simulates keystrokes and mouse movements.

Do you think I might be able to after completing this guide with a little reading on what I'm trying to do?

Thanks again.

You have a lot to learn before you even start Guis.

Yes I have, but I've only just started learning about GUI programming in Java recently so I can't vouch that it has exactly what you're looking for. After you understand all the perquisites of the topic it shouldn't be too difficult to implement what you need

I have head first and it's really fine for beginners, just watch a few youtube vids about the very basics and then move onto the book. They way it is written makes it really easy to learn but some people find the style condescending and will recommend a more technical book. I have used Head First (and continue to do so) and when you reach a certain level I would TOTALLY recommend 'Effective Java - Second edition', it's amazing once you know a fair bit.

Hope this helps!

You're essentially saying "I want to learn Spanish and I've found this book called 'Learn Spanish In 30 minutes'. Will I be able to write a book after this?"

No. That's not what he's saying at all.
