New book any thoughts? [C++ for dummies] - coreyizfate - Feb 11, 2016

Got the book for christmas but didnt have internet so i never really got to reading it since i wasnt able to download the program so that i could actually mess around with things. Anyways, just looking for opinions anybody read this if so what are your thoughts? Also this is my first programming language although i know a bit about html and used to do some flash coding but was all very minimal and basic.

Thanks for any replies guys just looking for your thoughts!

My thoughts? People spend more time wondering about how to learn C++ rather than just doing it.

Probably pretty true. Going to start messing around with it if not a little bit tonight then ill be going at it tomorrow. Just difficult to find time in the world we live in where most people have to work more then 40 hours to survive.

Hope that didnt sound like i was bitching about anything. Thank for the reply though, sounds like i should just read the damn thing rather then worry about it.

C++ is mostly about research, experimentation, understanding the concepts on context with the C++ standards, understanding what compilers do and how they differ if you use multiple, etc. Holding off just to find "the perfect book" isn't going to get you further ahead.

Then you're missing out on a fantastic Dostoevsky book, The Idiot.

Also, @0xDEAD10CC, have you read Modern Effective C++? (the new one) I think that's worth holding off for in terms of C++11 -> C++14 features. It's a good book, if you haven't already read it.
