which tool to secure USB drive? - RJan - Feb 17, 2016

Hey,

because my last USB flash drive has been stolen, I now want to secure my new one somehow. What tools can you suggest me? I heard of a tool that divides the USB drive in 2 partitions and hides one of them and shows it after entering a password. Does somebody know such a tool? I tried Bitlocker but it takes way to long to encrypt/decrypt a stick. Also someone told me it isnt save anymore.
Optimal would be
  • fast/no encryption (somehow hiding a partition. if possible)

  • no extra tools like Rohos Mini Drive to add/remove data from secured space

Most important is that if it gets stolen, the one can't use it.
BTW it's a SanDisk Extreme 64GB. Included software is not what I am looking for.

You can use a tool called fbinst to create a hidden partition on your USB drive - you need to run that tool to open the hidden partition and extract the hidden files though. The only way you can do this stuff without software is if you buy a specialised USB drive that has hardware security features built into it so you can do all the password protection stuff without installing any additional software.
