Should I stay in school? - FantaŠec - Mar 4, 2016 So currently, I am attending an un-accredited state university with a full ride, on track to be accredited in one year. I am wondering, if I should drop out (2nd semester freshman), wait for that to occur, and then go back (possibly). I just got a job offer from a major security company with a salary over 100k with lots of benefits. I don't know if its worth it to stay in school and risk accreditation, at the moment. I just got off a call with the director of operations, so I may be thinking a bit radical about dropping out. Advice? thanks. * - Biker BoyZ - Mar 4, 2016 You need education to get that sort of job. im surprised, but i would hold on to that job until you finish school. if you can't then thats your choice to drop out * - FantaŠec - Mar 4, 2016 (Mar 4, 2016 01:39 PM)Αrsenal Wrote: You need education to get that sort of job. im surprised, but i would hold on to that job until you finish school. if you can't then thats your choice to drop out I cannot do both, its one or the other sadly :/ * - HIGH PAID FELLA - Mar 4, 2016 I would say take this chance, you still have time to finish school. The chance will fly away before you realize. * - Manks - Mar 4, 2016 (Mar 4, 2016 01:49 PM)astr Wrote: I would say take this chance, you still have time to finish school. IMO Experience > Education especially in Computer Science. (Of course, education is implied especially if you have a job in tech) * - Kyle Beats - Mar 5, 2016 If you're being offered a job with a salary of ~100k/year with good benefits, take it. College can come later if needed, that's a great pay salary & benefits are always great to have. * - jobi - Mar 5, 2016 You are offered a job, which will pay you $100k a year, something that college will put you in debt or at least take from your pockets. In the 4 to 6 months of a college semester you will have already had more than enough experience to disregard any type of degree that would mean the same. You won't have to deal with some of the bullshit college will put you through. While working you should also build your own side portfolio, which equals even more experience and resume entree's. Going to college will/can get you in the same position, but you won't have the portfolio and experience that you can have by taking this job. Not to mention this opportunity might not be present after college. TL;DR Experience will mean more than that degree in the end. Aim for the job. * - RottenCrow - Mar 6, 2016 I agree with the others, if you can get the job, get it. Experience is at least as valuable as education. * - Autocorrect - Mar 6, 2016 You can lose the job but you can't lose the education Just remember your big new $100K job could fly away at any moment Source: My brother worked for Dick Smith Australia in head office * - Max.. - Mar 6, 2016 take the job, if it doesn't workout go back to school. good luck :) * - Ratt - Mar 6, 2016 Make sure you are guaranteed to not get fired for at least 2 years. * - ΔΔΔΔΔΔ - Mar 6, 2016 I would say dont drop out...Becausee if someday the company is no longer interested in you ,it may happen that you wont get a good job for dropping out..Ofcourse there are exceptions but very rare * - Loser Douche Bag #35 - Mar 6, 2016 tbh I'd drop out if you seriously are making $100k+ as a first year, benefits and possible salary increase then take that as your life job. Also make sure it's a contract so you are guaranteed the job for a few years. * - Legit Pandas - Mar 6, 2016 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUARYYhBFdM No but in all seriousness, if i was in your position, i would take it. You gain the experience and possible a good amount of money. If it doesn't work out later on down the road, you still have that experience and you can just go back to school can't you? * - FantaŠec - Mar 7, 2016 Well I do not pay for school atm, actually I get money back for other stuff from a school based scholarship. So I am not losing money either way. |
