Friend wants to build a 4k gaming computer, thoughts? - Drizzy - Apr 9, 2016 http://pcpartpicker.com/p/mz9pdC That's what I have at the moment. He wants to be able to have three 4k monitors and be able to game on it (GTA, League of Legends, RuneScape, etc). I told him he may need to buy a second GFX card, but I'm not entirely sure if it was necessary. Can I get thoughts/suggestions? Thanks. * - Nopee - Apr 9, 2016 Go with xfx or seasonic psu. sdd and hdd change it to a better brand. If i were you get a skylake 6700k would be good. * - drugs - Apr 9, 2016 Why did you add the motherboard as a custom part? You paired a i7-4790K with a X99 motherboard. You do know that those aren't compatible, right? Just do yourself a favor and pick from the list of compatible motherboards. Also, gaming on three 4K monitors isn't viable. You will struggle to game at 4K. If you want a consistent 60FPS on a single 4K monitor, you'll need two GTX 980 TI in SLI. If you add two more 4K monitors...yeah, have fun with that. Why not game on three 1440p monitors instead? It's a much more viable option. * - Drizzy - Apr 9, 2016 (Apr 9, 2016 12:16 PM)Mаjestic Wrote: Why did you add the motherboard as a custom part? I've suggested 1440p to him already but he wants 4k. * - Xycon - Apr 9, 2016 2/10 CPU and motherboard are not compatible. Shit PSU. Shit HDD. Would not get that SSD. Would switch to socket 1151 / DDR4. * - National Security Agency - Apr 9, 2016 (Apr 9, 2016 12:17 PM)Drizzy Wrote: He seems very set on gaming in 4k for some reason. Accidentally chose wrong motherboard. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/mz9pdC * - drugs - Apr 9, 2016 (Apr 9, 2016 12:17 PM)Drizzy Wrote: He seems very set on gaming in 4k for some reason. Well, tell him I think he's stupid and that I wish him luck on getting games to run at a consistent 60FPS on three 4K monitors. * - Cha0 - Apr 9, 2016 Samsung makes great phones but I'll never ever buy any of their SSDs again. Fucker broke when dropped at like a feet, that's not suppose to happen with SSDs :( * - Stag - Apr 9, 2016 Why spend that much on parts and then get cheap ram ? thats like buying a prostitute, but then only putting your dick in her ear * - Cha0 - Apr 9, 2016 (Apr 9, 2016 12:27 PM)Stag Wrote: Why spend that much on parts and then get cheap ram ? thats like buying a prostitute, but then only putting your dick in her ear This is the most beautiful hardware related quote ever. Well done, sir. 🤝 * - Steve Kosh - Apr 9, 2016 As Majestic said, even one 980 Ti can't do 4k60fps. If they're mainly playing LoL and Runescape, then one should be sufficient, but if they ever want to play more demanding games then they'll have to get a second card or run the game on lower settings. I'd also suggest 1440p 100+Hz (maybe even a 3440x1440) monitor. I personally find it pretty hard to go back to 60fps/60Hz after playing at 120fps/120Hz. Games are much smoother. EDIT: Had this typed up 10 min ago, but forgot to post. * - Breeze26509 - Apr 9, 2016 (Apr 9, 2016 12:24 PM)Drizzy Wrote: Okay changed around some parts. Accidentally chose wrong motherboard. That still won't work for a few reasons. 1. Motherboard and CPU aren't compatible. CPU is LGA1151, while motherboard is LGA2011-3. 2.RAM and motherboard aren't compatible. Motherboard takes DDR4 RAM, you've chosen DDR3 RAM. The only difference between the most expensive and the cheapest RAM is the heat spreader and the RAM speed. Other than that, they are basically identical. * - CyberneticTitan - Apr 9, 2016 PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($348.99 @ SuperBiiz) CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X61 106.1 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($114.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($132.98 @ Directron) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory ($59.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($149.45 @ OutletPC) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($149.45 @ OutletPC) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB XTREME GAMING Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($599.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB XTREME GAMING Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($599.99 @ Amazon) Case: Fractal Design Define R5 w/Window (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($89.99 @ NCIX US) Power Supply: SeaSonic M12II 850W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($104.99 @ Amazon) Total: $2350.81 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-04-09 15:33 EDT-0400 Might want to wait for Pascal. Don't expect to run 4k surround at ultra settings. 980Ti SLI will handle a single 4k monitor at ultra @ 60FPS. Storage configuration is your choice. Not sure why you'd choose 2 drives over 1 drive, but sure if it works. * - drugs - Apr 9, 2016 OP, please. Just stop trying to add motherboard as a custom part...You keep choosing incompatible motherboards that WILL NOT work with the CPU you choose. If you want to choose a X99 motherboard, then get a CPU that uses socket LGA 2011-3. You're choosing CPUs that use socket LGA 1150/1151 and trying to put them into a motherboard that uses socket socket LGA 2011-3. |
