How much taxes are you guys paying - cusername - May 6, 2016 For those of you who trade stocks or index funds, how much taxes are you paying? Canadian here, I pay nearly 0% in taxes now. Quick and dirty method (Not dirty as in illegal, this is 100% legal but AFAIK only works in Canada): Open a TFSA and transfer capital into it (many US brokers support and allow TFSA trading), retro the account so you can transfer in a larger amount of capital ($55k when I opened it so it should be $5.5k more this fiscal year), trade using it. You take out the money you need (e.g. paying bills or daily expenditures) and recontribute the money back with your trading income later on. This works great if you make back what you took out (so you pay 0% taxes) but in the case that you don't make all of it back (nothing is guaranteed after all), you can just roll it over to the next year and you have 1 full year from the fiscal date to recontribute it back. By definition, a TFSA is tax free but this is just a way to have no taxable income while still being able to spend it. * - cusername - May 7, 2016 (May 6, 2016 04:39 AM)Kіng Wrote: Canadian here, I pay nearly 0% in taxes now.
